Statement of the Algerian Delegation

on the adoption of the UPR of Hungary

Madame President,

My delegation warmly welcomes the Hungarian delegation and thanks her for the updates and the clear responses provided on the 29 pending recommendations received during the interactive dialogue on the national report before the UPR in last May.

On this occasion, Hungary received 148 recommendations, 113 were immediately accepted. Nine additional recommendations also enjoyed the support of Hungary as mentioned in the addendum. This clearly demonstrates the commitment of this country to further promote human rights.

My delegation formulated three recommendations related to the establishment of a national human rights institution, the assessment of all existing mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights with a view to strengthening them as needed and the ratification of the International Convention on Migrant Workers and Members of their Families.

We are encouraged by the acceptance of our two first recommendations and that the one on the establishing of a NHRI has been implemented.

Regarding our third recommendation on the ICMW, we hope that Hungary will reconsider its opposition to adhering to this fundamental human rights instrument in line with Recommendation 1737 of March 2006 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe which encourages its member States to ratify this human rights core instrument.

Finally we look forward to the implementation of all accepted recommendations by Hungary and recommend the adoption of its report.
