My delegation would like to extend a warm welcome to the esteemed delegation of Equatorial Guinea and thank it for today’s complementary information on the situation of human rights in this sister African country.
My delegation would like to note with satisfaction the endorsement by Equatorial Guinea of many of the recommendations submitted to it last December, including all those submitted by my delegation. This reflects the commitment of this country to the promotion and protection of human rights.
We appreciate the measures adopted by the Government to reduce poverty and to achieve ambitious economic development goals.
My delegation would like to refer particularly to the establishment of a free education system which ensures compulsory primary education. In this regard, we appreciate the acceptance of my delegation’s recommendation in favour of consolidating the National Plan of Education for All.
We note with appreciation the efforts undertaken by Equatorial Guinea with regard to promoting women and their participation in the decision making process, in line with one of the recommendations made by the delegation of Algeria.
We also underline the importance of the measures taken to facilitate access to justice through free legal assistance. We encourage Equatorial Guinea to maintain its policy in this regard as we recommended earlier.
We wish all the success for Equatorial Guinea in implementing the recommendations it has accepted and we suggest the adoption of the report of this country.
